Dr. Ketsela graduated from Addis Ababa University, with BSc. Degree, Major subject: Physics. He served as geophysicist in the Geological Survey of Ethiopia/EIGS.He obtained MPhil. Degree in Geophysics from the University of Leeds, England. He worked as a Promotion and Sales Team Leader, in the Petroleum Operations Department (POD) / Ministry of Mines and Energy (MME).He obtained his PhD. Degree in Geological Sciences from the University of Texas at El Paso (UTEP), USA in May 2007.
