Robert O'Keeffe is DNV GL’s Business Development Manager for Region UK & West Africa covering their Oil & Gas Business Area. Robert has over 30 years professional experience primarily in the Upstream Oil & Gas sector, initially with Shell International and now DNV GL since 2005.  He is a Chartered Engineer with an Engineering Science degree from the University of Oxford and completed a full-time MBA at Cranfield.

His 12 years with Shell International focussed on project management activities, leading multi-discipline project teams in several countries. Following his MBA, Robert spent 5 years with a Management Consultancy working on business / organisational change management projects supporting strategic change at senior levels.

Since joining DNV GL in 2005 he has worked in the area of business risk management covering change management and business process improvement as well as on technical audits, safety case activities, process safety management systems and broader risk management.  Until recently he was based in Cape Town as DNV GL’s Business Development Manager for Africa.

  • DNV GL has published updated research on its forecasts for the energy transition as the world’s energy supply sources and global demand change over the next 30 years. 
  • This talk will introduce the themes arising from the forecast and focus on the global expectations for decarbonisation of the energy markets, the need for greater efficiency (supported by digitalisation) to maintain energy affordability while acknowledging the competitive yet also complementary nature of the burgeoning renewables sector that can disrupt the upstream sector. 
  • Despite the forecast of substantial change, nevertheless Gas has a key role to play in the decarbonisation of future energy markets, while ‘new’ options such as Hydrogen develop their market solutions. 
  • DNV GL will discuss the topics with supporting data from our Industry Outlook survey and Technology Outlook report. Example projects in Europe and Africa will be highlighted.
