South Africa is the strategic hub for maritime operations in the South-South trade corridor from Asia to the East Coast of South America, and the connector routes along the east and west coasts of Africa. With its world-class engineering, deep supply chains and proximity to key drilling sites, South Africa is a preferred destination for the repair, maintenance and upgrade of drilling ships, semi-submersibles and jack-up rigs operating in African waters.

Saldanha Bay Industrial Development Zone (IDZ), Western Cape
The Saldanha Bay IDZ serves as a primary oil, gas and marine repair engineering and logistics service complex in Africa. Situated approximately two hours north of Cape Town, the IDZ services the upstream oil and gas industry, and production service companies operating in the oil and gas fields of Sub-Saharan Africa. It also offers a new deep-water berth for rigs and drill ships.

Atlantis Special Economic Zone (SEZ), Western Cape
The Atlantis SEZ is a greentech manufacturing hub established as a result of the Department of Minerals and Energy‘s Renewable Energy Independent Power Producer Procurement Programme. The SEZ capitalises on the Western Cape’s booming renewable energy and green technology sector, which includes wind turbines, solar panels, insulation, biofuels, electric vehicles, materials recycling, and green building materials.

Coega SEZ, Eastern Cape
In efforts to grow the local energy sector, the Coega Development Corporation explores sustainable economic measures to bring natural gas into South Africa to cater for the increased demand for affordable energy sources, and to prepare the region for gas readiness. The Coega SEZ is an ideal hub for the importation of liquefied natural gas.

Richards Bay IDZ, KwaZulu-Natal
The Richards Bay IDZ is a purpose-built and secure industrial estate designated to focus on metals beneficiation (aluminium, iron ore and titanium) and marine industry development (ship building and repair, oil refinery, and oil and gas). The IDZ is linked to the deep-water Port of Richards Bay.
