Maximising Africa's Natural Resources in the Global Energy Transition

Javed Akhtar

Director of Subsurface and Field Development BW Energy

Mr. Akhtar serves as the Director of Subsurface and Field Development at BW Energy.  He manages all current BWE assets and leverages his background in reservoir and production engineering to identify new opportunities.  Mr. Akhtar is proficient in oil/gas asset evaluation, capital allocation, and portfolio optimization. His technical, financial, and business development expertise has contributed to significant growth for BWE in Gabon and Brazil.  He works with corporate team to identify and complete strategic mergers and acquisitions and liaises with host governments regulators/oil ministries to facilitate field development. 
Mr. Akhtar is an accomplished leader, with over 30 years of experience in the upstream oil and gas sector in various management positions leading sub-surface, engineering, and operations teams. Before joining BW Energy, he managed the subsurface and operations team at VAALCO Energy for eight years and was responsible for production and subsurface for the onshore and offshore Gabon assets. He has also provided consultancy and expert advice on oil and gas fields in the Middle East, Africa, and Latin America. 
Mr. Akhtar earned an Executive MBA from Rice University with emphasis on corporate finance, mergers and acquisition; he holds both Bachelor’s and Master’s degrees in Petroleum engineering.
