As part of our Governments & VIP programme, AOW: 50 is a niche and high-level vehicle that drives high impact deals and pragmatic solutions for Africa’s energy sector.

2023 Highlights

The grand launch of AOW 50 in 2023 put a highlight on African energy transition journeys. Opened by Gwede Mantashe, Minister of Mineral Resources and Energy, the discussion focused on highlighting the diversity of each region's energy mix and promoting public-private sector cooperation to invest in Africa's wide range of energy sources.

Minister Mantashe shared South Africa's energy growth story and insisted on the need to attract additional private sector investments across the country's energy infrastructure. He especially called on energy cooperation and trade amongst African nations and expressed hopes to the see the mega Inga III hydropower project from the D.R. Congo back on the table very soon. Following his opening remarks, AOW:50 organised a leadership roundtable between the public and the private sector before inviting our community to intimate roundtable discussions around key topics driving Africa’s energy transformation journey: finance, gas, and power.
